Embossing Paste Tutorial

When I went to the craft show this past weekend, I was struck by one of the samples they had hanging in a booth. So... there went my first 20ish bucks at that booth. I bought the embossing plate and the embossing paste. They also gave me a sheet of directions on how to do the technique. I figured even I could manage to smother a metallic plate with goo and squeegee it off! LOL.

So here's what I started with supply wise:

Embossing plate of choice
Embossing paste (this is glossy white)
Dark colored paper
Spatula (I used a Pampered Chef pan scraper)
Tape (low tack)

First step is taping the stencil to the paper (so it doesn't move):

Next step is to add some embossing paste to your spatula and spread across the template. The trick here is to start off the template... drag across the template... and do NOT lift it up or put it down in the template itself (or it forces paste into areas where you don't want it). They sell spatulas (that look a lot like cake decorating spatulas...) but I just used a Pampered Chef pan scraper.

Turn over and take off the tape and gently lift the stencil away from the paper. If you want to add glitter... now is the time to do it (while the paste is still wet). I used the ultrafine clear glitter. Then set the cardstock aside to dry (do not use a heat gun). It'll take a few hours to dry. Then make your card!

Do you want to know a secret? I managed to get embossing paste on the outside border (where there should have been a solid outline around the tree background). So I just trimmed the cardstock right up against the trees and then mounted to another piece of cardstock the same color so you can't tell I made a boo boo.

"Ten Rules of Chocolate" Book

My inspiration came from Charlene who made a "Chocolate Book". But who am I to leave well enough alone, LOL! Of course I had to take the general idea and run with it.....
Here's how my thought process begins - with scribbles, notes, measurements, etc.

I've gotten these chocolate "tips" in emails many times before so it was high time I use them in a project like Charlene did! I love it!

Supplies I used:
(All items from The Angel Company, except the brads)
Penelope Soar With It Collection
Penelope Cardstock
Penelope Ribbon
Seeds of Blessings stamp set
Versamagic Eggplant ink
1/2" circle punch

Recollections brads
Computer generated title, rules, and back tag.


Cut cardstock to 4" x 9 1/2". With the long side across the top of your Scor-pal, score at 6 1/2" and 6 3/4". (Scor-pal tip: to score at 6 3/4", place the 6 1/2" score mark on the 4" Scor-pal line and score at 4 1/4".)

Now turn the cardstock so the short side is across the top of the Scor-pal. Place the left side of the cardstock on the 3 1/2" Scor-pal line, score at 4" and 4 1/4" from top to bottom. Turn cardstock around and repeat on the other edge.

Now cut the sections out marked by red in the diagram above.

Fold on all of the score lines. It should look like the picture above.

Glue the flaps around to the back to create a "pouch" for the candy bar. This piece will be glued on the right side of the cover which is described next:

Cut cardstock to 6 3/8" x 7". With the 6 3/8" side across the top, score at 3" from each side.

Decorate the rest of your "book" as desired. Here are some more pictures of mine:

I designed the "pouch" to be just the right height so that when you place your Hershey bar down in it, the letters HERS show at the top. Because this chocolate is HERS! heehee, pretty cute huh?!

Valentine's Day Candy Box

Here's a SIMPLE gift idea!!!!
Start with THIS box! I saw it in a store this week and though, wow! That is an awesome box to alter!!!
1.Open the box, take out the treats in it and gobble them down FIRST!!!!!!!!!! Then take the cover apart.2. Spread a coating of glue on it and place your patterned paper on top and flatten out smoothly.3.Let it dry and trim the paper around the edge of the box.Fold up again.It will look like this.4. Open up the box completely. A 12x12 piece of patterned paper won't fit across the box, so what I did was I added a small piece on the end before I started covering the whole box.5. The places I have marked witha black "X" do not really have to be covered. Cover with glue, the areas that you want to put your patterned paper.If the paper you have chosen matches the red in the box, then you really don't need to cover the flaps either.
6. Once you have this done, let it dry and then trim the paper around the box. Re-fold it and glue the ends together.I used clips to hold it in place for a few minutes before starting the next step.7. When that is glued and set, then all you need to do now is trim the paper around the box, put the box back together and voila, it will look like this!8. Embellish it as you wish. Now it's ready to fill with yummies for a loved one!!!

Hidden Drawer Card

Here is a tutorial for a Hidden Drawer Card. The other tutorials I've seen online hold Hershey Nuggets in their drawer so I decided to be different and use a Reece's Peanut Butter Cup. The drawer does hold SIX Nuggets beautifully though!

On with the directions:

Supplies I used:
(ALL supplies are from The Angel Company)
Cha Cha Soar With It Collection
Cha Cha Cardstock
Mega Scalloped Circle Punch
All Occasion Circles stamp set
Kid Praises stamp set
Seeds of Blessing stamp set
Palette L'Amore Red ink
Versamagic Hint of Pesto ink
Versamagic Pumpkin Spice ink
White gel pen


To make the drawer, cut your cardstock 4 13/16" x 4 13/16". Score it at 15/16" on all four sides. I know these are odd measurements, but my drawer fits perfectly! Another way to do this is to cut the cardstock 4 15/16" x 4 15/16", score at 1" on each side, then trim 1/16" off of each side. Whatever is easiest for you.

Make ONE cut at each corner, fold the flaps in and glue in place.

Cover the front and back sides with patterned cardstock cut to 3/4" x 2 3/4".

To make the card part, cut your cardstock to 3" x 11 7/8". With the long side across the top of your Scor-pal, score at 3", 4", 7", 8", and 11".

Fold it and glue the flap in place as shown in the picture above. Notice at the red arrow, the flap fold rests just under the scored line. And the blue arrow shows how the flap does NOT go all the way down to the bottom.

To make my Reece's Peanut Butter cup "sandwich", I cut the cardstock to 2 1/2" x 2 1/2". With a little dot of glue, I put one on top and bottom. This cup is one that comes 8 to a pack for about $1. (.55 ounce per cup)

Decorate and embellish the rest however you want. Whatever floats your boat, lol! Here are some more pics of mine:
